Characteristics and Applications of Stainless Steel Spring Material
301-CSP and 304-CSP are the main austenitic stainless steel spring materials. Compared to 304-CSP , 301-CSP has slightly lower corrosion resistance but is more suitable for spring production. Through a special production process of continuous bright annealing and rolling, it can achieve good hardness and is suitable for bending and processing.
301-CSP has a lower chromium (Cr) content compared to 304-CSP, resulting in inferior corrosion resistance. However, it can achieve very high tensile strength and hardness through cold working, making it widely used in various applications. Its excellent elasticity makes it extensively employed in laptops to prevent electromagnetic interference as elastic contact parts.
Even if the hardness is the same between 301 and 304, when used in elastic products, materials with similar hardness (such as SUS301-3/4H and SUS304-H), SUS304-H is more prone to elastic fatigue.
Due to its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, stainless steel spring material is widely used in the following applications: industrial springs, conveyor belts, connectors, switch components, aircraft parts, electrical components, precision stamped parts, and hardware.
Even with similar hardness, materials like SUS301-3/4H and SUS304-H, when used in elastic products, SUS304-H is more susceptible to elastic fatigue.
Stainless steel spring material is widely used in various applications due to its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, including industrial springs, conveyor belts, connectors, switch elements, aircraft components, electrical elements, precision stamped parts, and hardware.
Stainless Steel 200 / 300 / 400 Series Characteristics
Stainless steel spring material is typically composed of iron, carbon, chromium, nickel, cobalt, and other alloying elements. Stainless steel can be divided into three series: 200 series, 300 series, and 400 series, which differ in the type and proportion of alloying elements.
200 Series: Primarily containing nickel and manganese but no chromium, they have poorer corrosion resistance but good ductility and formability, making them easy to process and shape. Products made from 200 series stainless steel include kitchen utensils, furniture, pipes, and building structures.
300 Series: Primarily containing chromium and nickel but no molybdenum, they have excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature performance, making them particularly suitable for use in industries such as chemical, petroleum, and food processing. The most common of these is 304 stainless steel, which has a wide range of applications including kitchen utensils, food processing equipment, medical devices, building exterior decoration, and more.
400 Series: Primarily containing chromium and molybdenum but no nickel, they have poorer corrosion resistance but good heat and wear resistance, making them particularly suitable for use in industries such as mechanical and automotive manufacturing. The most common of these is 430 stainless steel, which is used to make components such as cutting tools, screws, bearings, and automotive parts, as well as building and decorative materials.
